FB to Introduce Sponsored Stories in Ticker

Continuing with its revamping exercise, Facebook is all set to introduce Sponsored Stories in the News Feeds Ticker located in the top right corner. So now along with news feeds of your friends, you will now also see paid news feeds in the ticker.

According to FB spokesperson Annie Ta, sponsored stories will help people see more relevant marketing initiatives and they can be twice more engaging than the normal FB ads.

This is definitely Facebook’s latest initiative to attract brands and digital marketing agencies. So the next time you tag yourself as shopping for Nike shoes in your comment, your friends will see the comment with the Nike logo. Nike will now be able to buy these comments and use them to promote their brand.

If you are a web marketer or a social media strategist for a brand, this news will certainly cheer you up. Instead of just placing your ads in the right column and waiting for the users to actually click on it, you would certainly love to see your brand being displayed when the user engagement is at its maximum.

With this, Facebook is certainly looking to earn some serious advertising revenue, with the new model based on a cost-per-action basis. The Beta results have proved that this new move will not only enhance brand presence but also increase the chances of users recommending it.

An instant reaction to this not very positive. The general perception is that it will adversely affect user experience. This is mainly because distinguishing between the normal news feed and a sponsored story will be really difficult for the user.

Now what will be the eventual outcome of this change remains to be seen.
